With the support Kāhui Kaumatua and Bishop Steve Lowe, the Hāto Petera Interim Governance Group provided an overview of the governance document “Tūāpapa” which sets out how we will collaborate, decide and implement decisions for Hāto Petera broader goals and objectives.  The Interim Governance Group also provided an outline of th eprocess to establish Te Waka O Hāto Petera Wāwāhi Ara.  More information about the Tūāpapa and the process for establishing the Wāwāhi Ara can be found here.

Sad to hear of the passing of Monsignior David Bennett. Many may have heard already.

A great friend of Bishop Māriu and Pa Henare.
First Māori to be elevated to the Monsigniori.
Third (possibly fourth) Māori ordained priest in 1968. First mass celebrated at Te Unga Waka, and regular visitor to Hāto Petera.
Closely connected to Te Kiingitanga.

Dame Naida in the #Newsmakers Series

#NEWSMAKERS: The simple act of answering the phone with the now widely-used greeting “kia ora” nearly lost Dame Naida Glavish her job 40 years ago 👇

The simple act of answering the phone with the now widely-used Māori greeting nearly lost Dame Naida Glavish her job 40 years ago.

Glavish, then known as Naida Povey, had used the greeting since starting her work as a toll operator in 1975, but a promotion to a senior role in Auckland and the arrival of a new supervisor from Taupō who stuck “strictly” to the rules saw the “challenges begin”, she said.  “The rules were ‘good morning’, ‘good afternoon’, ‘good evening’.

We are pleased to have Dame Naida as a Kaumatua Rōpū member for Hāto Petera.   Click here to read the article and click on the video half way down the article to watch the news story.
